Two reasons to slow down
Bamyan and Band-e Amir offer different ways to experience the central highlands. Bamyan's cliff niches and archaeological remains are part of a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape. Band-e Amir is known for lakes separated by natural travertine formations. One visit centers on a layered human history; the other invites attention to the shape and color of the landscape.
Give each visit its own time
When discussing a route, ask how the days are divided between the valley, the lakes and the journeys connecting them. Trying to cover too many stops in a day can leave little time to look closely, ask questions or enjoy a view. Your interests should help decide where to spend longer.
